Each year, the Bala Cranberry Festival proudly distributes five scholarships to students in the Township of Muskoka Lakes.

 

The Orville Johnston Memorial Scholarship

 

The Orville Johnston Memorial Scholarship is available to any student, under the age of twenty, who wishes to further his or her education at the post secondary level on either a full or part-time basis. Applicants should submit a 250 word essay explaining their record of community Involvement and why they believe that they deserve to receive the scholarship. Applications should be accompanied by a photocopy of both the registration form from the post-secondary institution to which the applicant has applied, and confirmation that the applicant has been accepted.  Applications will not be accepted after June 30, 2012.

The Isaac Taylor Memorial Scholarship

Isaac Taylor was a long-time resident of Bala and a revered community leader.  He served as Chair of the Cranberry Festival for a number of years,  and his many hours of volunteer work have helped to make our town a better place to live for everyone who chooses to make Bala their home.  This Scholarship honours his commitment and dedication to the people of Bala.

Applicants should submit a 250 word essay explaining how they have demonstrated leadership, community involvement and compassion for others.  Applications should be accompanied by a photocopy of the registration form from the post-secondary institution to which the applicant has applied and confirmation that the applicant has been accepted.  Applications will not be accepted after June 30, 2012.

The Bala Jewitt Youth Scholarship

The Bala Jewitt Youth Scholarship is available to any student, under the age of twenty, who wishes to further his or her education at the post secondary level on either a full or part-time basis.Applicants should submit a 250 word essay explaining their record of community Involvement and why they believe that they deserve to receive the scholarship. Applications should be accompanied by a photocopy of both the registration form from the post-secondary institution to which the applicant has applied, and confirmation that the applicant has been accepted. The Performing Arts Scholarship

 

The Performing Arts Scholarship is awarded to a student who is pursuing advancement in the performing arts. Applicants must be from Muskoka Lakes Township, be registered in their art of choice, and possess at least two years experience in that discipline.  Applications will not be accepted after June 30, 2012.  This scholarship is available for students aged 12 to 20 years.

The Bala Cranberry Festival Sports Scholarship

 

The Bala Cranberry Festival Sports Scholarship is offered to athletes who satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Athlete must be registered and accepted into a competitive program which is at a higher level than the one which the applicant has presently attained.
  2. The athlete must be from Muskoka Lakes Township.
  3. The athlete must use the scholarship money only for sport registration and/or equipment needed for the next level of training.
  4. Evidence of registration acceptance must accompany the application.
  5. This scholarship is open for students aged 12 to 20 years.
